AS Chemistry A - (AIMS) - The aim of this unit is to provide a detailed understanding of the structure and function of both organic and inorganic molecules. Students will look at the major classes of organic molecules. The unit will include an emphasis on the study of pH and the solubility of ions, and the study of supramolecular structures in organic molecules. The unit will focus on the study of the types of bonds that exist in the main classes of organic molecules, and the relationships of molecules to chemical reactions. The unit will include the study of the structure and function of the major biological macromolecules, and the structure of organic molecules in biochemistry and medicine.
