Participant perceptions of the negative and positive changes were measured using a 2 (pre-test and post-test) X 2 (self and peer) pre-test-post-test design. Perceptions of Home were measured with the same pre-test and post-test design. All pretests and posttests were given on the same day, and in the same time. All tests were administered by the first author using paper and pencil. On the pre test, participants were asked to what degree they agreed or disagreed with various statements on an Likert scale. For example, "I agree with the statement that people can really change their lives", and participants responded with a score from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree). On the post test, participants were asked to the same degree as before. For example, "I agree with the statement that people can really change their lives", and responses to each item was scored as 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree) as before. The following dependent measures were used.
On the pre test, before the participants experienced the Virtual Reality Room, they completed a demographic questionnaire. After they completed the pre test, they entered the Virtual Reality Room and were asked to remove their shoes and watch a slideshow. The slideshow contained photographs of five people and briefly described their personalities. We used real people because we wanted to ascertain that the participants could identify with and remember the pre ride stories once they were in the VR Room. Once the participants watched the slideshow, they were told that the five poses were signs of the five senses and would be compared to their own personality traits. They were then asked: "What is your best personality trait?" Participants then answered using a VAS ranging from "Overly Self-Confident" (0) to "Overly insecure" (100) and received their post test score.
A 2 (users who watched the slideshow before the VR Room and users who did not) by 2 (pre and post score) was performed to measure differences in pre-post scores between users who watched the slideshow before the VR Room and users who did not. d2c66b5586
