The first thing I did to begin this study note is to install Java. As mentioned previously, I chose the Java SE 8U5 for 64-bit computers. I downloaded the Java from the Oracle website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html). My first time to download Java and install it was a little bit different. It took a lot of time and efforts. It was a pain to deal with the errors.
Also, the JDK version is inside the zip file. So read the readme file that is inside the zip file. You can use the readme file to make sure you are getting the correct version of Java for your computer.
After you downloaded the zip file, you can unzip it. You should see a file named eclipse (maybe with a different extension). So open the eclipse folder that is inside the zip file. You can also use the windows explorer and double-click to open the file.
You should choose a Java version that suits you best. I choose Java SE 8U5. You may ask how do I know which Java version I should choose? Well, the version of Java of your application server may give you some clues. For instance, if you are using Apache Tomcat (the most popular open source Java application server), you will get the version of Java that your Tomcat is running with. So if Tomcat tells you that you are running Java 8, you can be sure that you are running Java 8. So go to the official Oracle website and download your desired version of Java.
