Under normal circumstances, the body’s heart is capable of pumping blood to the brain at up to five liters per minute. However, under conditions of stress, blood flow is temporarily restricted because the heart pumps the blood to the primary emergency organs, the skin, the heart, and the muscles. The body depends on the blood flow to the brain to sustain its function. When this blood flow is decreased, for instance, in a car accident or a myocardial infarction, the brain becomes exposed to potentially life threatening situations. The heart can react by over-reacting and when this happens, a person may go into cardiac arrest and die.
The feeling that the heart is blocked is the first symptom of a cardiogenic shock, a condition that can cause permanent injury to the heart. Many patients who have experienced cardiogenic shock have said that they felt like their heart was being ripped out of their chest. This feeling can be perceived like a sensation of a knife sticking in the chest. The heart pumps blood through the arteries, which go to work in the muscles of the body, especially the arms and legs. When blood flow to a limb is blocked, this can lead to a limb ischemia, in which the blood supply to the limb is interrupted. A limb ischemia can lead to edema (swelling of the limb), gangrene (white tissue turning black), and ultimately amputation of the limb.
The brain has the ability to save the wrong memories of traumatic experiences, which can cause mental health issues. When there is a traumatic event, it is stored away into the brain. When there is a repetitive traumatic event, this can lead to the brain holding on to traumatic memories which will cause mental health issues. When a person goes through trauma for an extended amount of time, this can create fear in a person's mind, which can be triggered by something as simple as a different color. Once the traumatic stimuli is triggered, the person may start re-experiencing the trauma. d2c66b5586
